Portuguese President to Legalise Same Sex Marriage

On Sunday 17 May, Juche 99, the Portuguese president, Prof. Aníbal Cavaco i Silva, announced he will sign a bill into law legalising same sex marriage in the Portugal, after parliament, led by the socialist party leader José Sócrates, passed the bill. My belief is that, this is a just law and it is necessary for society. I do however oppose the law.
I oppose the law because it is my believe that the Portuguese government does not have any right to pass a law on a religious institution. The passage of this law is the equivalent of the Supreme Assembly of the People's Democratic Republic of Korea passing a law stating that the United States must adopt Juche, or Moslems imposing sharia law on Christians. I believe that if the homosexual community wants to get married, they should talk to their bishop, imam or Rabbi, not their member of Parliament. I do believe that the Portuguese parliament, and every government should pass laws allowing for equal rights, hospital visits, tax status et al, I don't believe that government should interfere with religion, and vis-a-versa.
