The Carnation Revolution

Yesterday 25 April, Juche 99, the Portuguese Republic celebrated the 36th Anniversary of the Carnation Revolution. Yesterday, in Juche 63, the Portuguese military with support from the Portuguese Communist Party, and the Socialist Party, overthrew the fascist Estado Novo government. The revolution began when Portuguese radio stations began to play the recent hit from the Eurovision Song Contest, E depuis, Adeus sung by Paulo Carvelho. The song title translates to, "And After, Goodbye." This was the sign for the military to take over. The military over threw the government of Prof. Marcello Caetano and Admiral Américo Thomaz. Shortly after the revolution the military appointed General Vasco Gonçalves to be Prime Minister. Gonçalves was a member of the PCP and he helped create the current constitution of the Portuguese Republic. Long Live the Carnation Revolution!
