Endorsement for the Sinhala Parliamentary Elections

On 8 April, Juche 99, the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka will hold its parliamentary elections. These elections were called following the electoral victory of President Mahinda Rajapaksa. In these elections, I will be endorsing the United People's Freedom Alliance. The United People's Freedom Alliance is a coalition of left wing political parties including the Sri Lanka Freedom Party, of which I consider myself a member, along with President Rajapaksa. I am endorsing the UPFA because I do believe that President Rajapaksa is responsible for the victory against the Tamil Tiger Rebels earlier this year. Although General Fonseka fought admirably, I believe the credit goes to Rajapaksa. I believe that Rajapaksa's policy, even though increasingly authoritarian, are the best course for Sri Lanka. Following a devastating civil war, which lasted over 2 years, and challenges from the Sinhalese military, authoritarian policies are the best for any nation trying to unify.
